Eureka, KS

I’ve been married to my incredible wife, Nancy, for almost 4 years.  We have 2 lovely children, ages 3 years and 9 months old. My parents and 2 brothers still live in Kansas.

“I enjoy m
ountain biking, golf, hiking, and reading.

Why did you choose burn care/BRCA?
I was looking for new opportunities in my career as a hand and plastic surgeon when a position at BRCA presented itself. Having done a significant amount of burn care in my training, with additional burn care at my prior position, I know what it takes to provide worldclass burn care with compassion. I know that taking care of these patients will be fulfilling.

What is your favorite part of your job? Your least favorite?
My favorite part is reflecting back with patients at the conclusion of their treatment, talking about the path we took and really embracing the gratitude that patients have for investing in the care they receive. My least favorite is seeing patients in pain, knowing that there is nothing I can do in many cases to make it go away fully.

What gets you out of bed in the morning?
Knowing that I get to operate that day. I love operating and using my skills to make patients better. Well, that, and a nice cup of coffee.

What is your biggest achievement to date – personal or professional?
I was fortunate to receive the Alice B. Jensen outstanding hand fellow award at the conclusion of training. That alone signifies I was chosen by the faculty at Mayo Clinic as the most deserving fellow, but to have the program director state I was the best fellow since his arrival was especially meaningful. It is quite fulfilling to know that years of dedication and sacrifice to plastic surgery training paid off.

 What is your guilty pleasure?
Climbing on the playground equipment. I have a 3yearold now, so that’s cool.”
