Family: “My mom and two sisters still live in Ohio.”
What are your hobbies?
“All of my hobbies are inspired by nature. When I’m outside of the hospital and I have some free time, I like to play golf, go fly fishing, skiing, or hiking.”
Why did you choose burn care/BRCA?
“Everyone (at BRCA) is very professional and patient care is always at the forefront. That is what really drew me to BRCA. I wanted like-minded colleagues and I found them here.”
What is your favorite part of your job? Your least favorite?
“The most enjoyable part of my job is, first and foremost, interacting with the patients. As a surgeon, however, performing surgery is also one of my favorite daily experiences. My least favorite part of my job? I’m not sure. I don’t think I have one.”
What gets you out of bed in the morning?
“There is no way of knowing who is going to walk through my door or what condition they are in or struggling with, which is what makes my job exciting and meaningful. There is a challenge in that every day presents something new.”
What is your biggest achievement to date – personal or professional?
“I had the amazing opportunity to run a successful Level I trauma center. Along with that, I created a successful Robotic and Hernia Center of Excellence in Michigan that continues to grow to this day.”
What app do you use the most?
“I use UpToDate often. It has very detailed medical information including the treatment of different disease processes. I like that the app references articles on the latest research/literature across the medical field.”
