Hosted at the Château Élan Winery and Resort in Braselton, Georgia, the symposium had over 170 clinical attendees and raised an incredible $121,355.00.  All proceeds help make this event possible and allows for the foundation to provide scholarships to applicants from low-income hospitals to attend.

Advanced Burn Life Support (ABLS) Courses

Throughout 2019, educators from Burn and Reconstructive Centers of America (BRCA) taught 19 ABLS courses across seven states, including Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Mississippi, Nevada and Texas.

Additionally, BRCA staff members gave over 260 education presentations in medical communities and facilities across the nation.

Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center (EIRMC) (April)

In April, Burn and Reconstructive Centers of America welcomed Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center to the nation’s largest burn network. Located in Idaho Falls, EIRMC was the first of four facilities BRCA opened in 2019, bringing advanced burn and wound inpatient and outpatient care to adult and pediatric patients in Idaho.

Burn Tower Groundbreaking (April)

Burn Center Tower Groundbreaking – April 30, 2019

The largest project ever on the Doctors Hospital campus, the future of burn care began with the groundbreaking of a $75 million expansion. The new, three-story burn tower—along with the addition of a parking deck—is expected to be completed in the summer of 2020. The project will add 24 beds to the burn center, bringing the total number of burn beds to 96. Additionally, the 102,214 square foot facility will include a 15-bay burn PACU and four additional operating rooms dedicated to burn patients.

ACCME Provider Accreditation (May)

As stated on the Accreditation Council TM for Continuing Medical Education website, “The fields of medicine and science never stop moving forward—and neither should physicians.”

In May, BRCA Foundation became an accredited provider of AMA PRA Category 1 CreditTM Continuing Medical Education Credits. This accreditation helps the foundation in its goal of advancing specialized care of burn patients by improving access to burn education programs.

Capital Regional Medical Center (September)

In September, BRCA’s burn network continued to expand with the opening of the JMS Burn Center at Captial Regional Medical Center in Tallahassee, Florida. The outpatient clinic is open to patients on Wednesdays and includes services from primary burn treatments to laser scar therapy.

South Georgia Medical Center – Transition to telemedicine clinic (September)

South Georgia Medical Center (SGMC) launched a telemedicine clinic in September. The clinic at SGMC offers patients a convenient way to increase engagement with their physicians, receive quality care through an expansive network of specialists and maintain the same level of privacy and security as in-person consultations.

The clinic currently offers telemedicine appointments on Tuesdays from 8 a.m.-5 p.m.

Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center (October)

In early October, BRCA introduced Nevada’s newest option for inpatient and outpatient adult and pediatric burn care at Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center in Las Vegas. The outpatient clinic at Sunrise is open Monday-Friday.

Augusta Polo Cup (November)

Now sponsored by BRCA Foundation, the Augusta Polo Cup is an annual fundraiser that helps the foundation provide burn education programs and benefits the South Carolina Youth Diabetes Association and their annual Camp Sweet Escape.

The Third Annual Augusta Polo Cup treated spectators to a full day of tailgating, polo and an experience they won’t soon forget.

Shop with a Doc 2019 (December)

Shop with a Doc helps ensure young burn patients have a holiday season that includes the things that every child wishes for. This year, each Shop with a Doc event came to a total of 84 pediatric burn survivors who met their burn care providers and enjoyed a holiday shopping spree at our Augusta, Jackson, Miami and Idaho Falls locations.

This event is made possible due to the Burn Foundation of America and its various donations and scholarships.
